Open Question: Is it easier to go to Boston University to get into Boston University School of Medicine?
I’m a Junior in “high school” and I know I don’t have to think much about medical school yet. But after receiving a bad score from SAT test (only 1600 ish), I think my chance of going into Boston College just goes down. I have more possibility to go to Boston University. And I want to major in Business Entrepreneur and Pre-Med.
I’m in a private school right now and get 4.1 GPA. A swim team captain, community service executive, Model UN, Medical club, Junior Leadership Program, Charity shop committee, Relay For Life Cancer team, and Science Research Group.
I’m also from Thailand and get 112 on TOEFL test.
Thank you.
Resolved Question: Hey I have a question..please answer guys?
?
Okay firstly thank you for reading this, I hope you can help..
I’m currently junior at this small private college near my house, and I really wanted to dorm but i ended up commuting because its not really a great dorm college. I am graduating in two years then off to medical school. I’m in a few groups and i make friends easily, but should i try to dorm or focus on my education?
I want to get into a medical school, my gpa will probably end up 3.7 or 3.8, Im an honor student, and I currently am a part time medical assistant/shadowing a family doctor doing EKG’s, vitals, blood tests and basically learning alot.
I have an issue because my bad adviser didnt tell me to take my first core class last semester but that should be resolved.
My science grades are ranged from B to A’s. And my passion is medicine. but theres so much pressure, balancing my part time job with 15-19 credits and my social life.. but i do it.
Do you think im on the right track? i feel like i lost.. inspiration , i have no reasons to be upset really, well instead of the fact that i think im not really attractive =[ , do i have a reason to be unhappy???????? read more...
Open Question: Race requirements on scholarships?
I am a white college student in a medical school, and I receive countless emails and see various ads in local newspapers advertising various scholarships for college students. I find, however, that the majority of these scholarships have race requirements, and include statements such as "Must be African-American," or "Must be Hispanic."
It's a little disappointing that because of my white heritage I am unable to apply for these scholarships, but I understand that it can be difficult for some minority groups (and all other groups, really) to afford a college education. Plus, the majority of these scholarships are provided by private organizations or individual donors, so they are perfectly justified in instituting these requirements.
But to put a spin on things, what if I were to start my own scholarship, and the requirement is that you must be white? I'm pretty sure Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would be rioting outside my apartment the next day.
I am in no way a racist, but it seems that when certain items restrict white people, it is socially acceptable. But when minority groups are restricted, it is instantly labeled is racist. I don't actually plan on starting the "whites only" scholarship; but hypothetically, if I were to set up the scholarship, should it be considered morally and ethically unacceptable? Or should it be considered acceptable as it is my money, and because there are many scholarships barring whites from reception of the money?
(Sorry, I know it is kind of a long question, but it is kind of an interesting topic. I would like to know what other people think.)
Also as a side note, I know they have certain specific scholarships for whites. For example, scholarships for Jewish students, or Italian-American students, Polish-American students, and so on. These scholarships don't seem to face much scrutiny, as they are very specific to an ethnic group. But, the scholarships for African-Americans and Hispanic Americans are not divided like this. The requirements don't state that the student must have ancestry in Kenya, Zimbabwe, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, etc. If the scholarship requires that the individual must be simply Caucasian-American, it would most likely be considered to be racist.
